Hiring and Evaluation Guidelines
The responsibility for making hiring recommendations for school personnel lies with the administration. Administrators may seek input prior to making decisions about who to recommend to the Board of School Directors for approval. It is the School Board’s responsibility to approve or disapprove of recommendations made by the administration. Following are points about hiring that the Board Extracurricular Committee recommends for School Board consideration.
The responsibility for evaluating and rating the performance of school personnel rests with the administration. The administration will determine the criteria and processes that will be used to evaluate personnel, with the understanding that the district hires professionals for a reason and has the obligation to focus the evaluation process on professional development and continuous improvement of the program. Where the law allows and it makes sense to do so, the administration will seek input from stakeholders regarding coaches’ performance, so that the administration can make the most informed evaluation decisions possible.
