For the 2019-20 school year, evaluations, standardized assessments, and evaluators certifications will be waived.
If a family would like to begin a homeschool program, they would still need to submit a notarized affidavit and required documents to the district. Please contact the Hempfield School Distict Registration office for further details on how to submit the documents at 717-459-9009.
Home Education (or Home Schooling) is one education option available to students. For detailed guidelines and requirements, please refer to the documents listed in the sidebar. Also provided are forms and affidavits that may apply to you as a home schooled family.
The Home Education office is located in the Student Services Office at the Administration Building, Door D1, 200 Church Street, Landisville. You may contact the Student Services offices at 717-459-9009 for additional information.
PSSA / Keystone Exams
PSSA exams are taken in grades 3 through 8. Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments taken at the conclusion of Algebra IB, English 10 and Biology, regardless of what grade students are in at the time.
If you desire to have your child take the state PSSA tests or Keystone Exams with district-enrolled students, you must contact the principal of the school building serving your neighborhood. If you are unsure which building principal to contact, our Student Services Office can direct you. All declarations must be received in the buildings no later than October 1 of each year in order to ensure testing labels and materials are ordered for your child.
For students in grades 6-12, the Pennsylvania Department of Education created the Pennsylvania Core Standards that highlight the various content standards across core curricular areas. To use this resource, simply select the grade level and the subject area.
In an effort to help parents establish quality goals and objectives each year, our district has gathered valuable resources for your use on our K-12 curriculum page. If you are in need of additional curriculum resources, we are happy to help you. Together we hope to provide for a quality educational experience for every child in our school district.
Medical ScreeningsIf you are interested in having your child participate in medical screening offered by the Hempfield Nursing Staff, call the appropriate attendance zone school to schedule an appointment.
Extracurricular ActivitiesAll students that live in the district have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities offered by the district.
Important Change in Definition of “Compulsory School Age”
The compulsory school age in Pennsylvania was recently changed and requires all students to begin school no later than age 6 and attend school until age 18 or until graduation. Children may be excused from compulsory attendance for documented medical or other compelling reasons as outlined in district attendance policy and procedures.
