Congratulations again to all of our 2018 Hempfield School District Athletic Hall of Fame inductees! The induction ceremony was this past Saturday, September 8, 2108 at the Wheatland Federal Credit Union Hempfield High School Cafeteria. The celebration was a wonderful, inspiring, and tearful event. Inductees included:

    • Rob Cooper, Football, Basketball, Track & Field, Class of 1966
    • Joe Kinderwater, Swimming, Class of 2007
    • Luke Murray, Volleyball, Class of 2004
    • Lisa McDonnell Stough, Swimming, Class of 2006

Barry Henry talked about the character of Rob Cooper and told why Rob deserved to be a member of our illustrious Hall of Fame. The words from Dawn Brill-Cooper and Rob Cooper II told about the heart and life of the man. Eighteen family and friends came out to support Dawn and Rob.

Swimmers Joe Kinderwater and Lisa McDonnell Stough are young, but both talked about their roots at Hempfield.  Steve Beck talked about the talent and hard work that  both demonstrated.

And, Lisa Murray and Gary Vogel were superb as they described Luke Murray, inductee. Lisa (Luke Murray's mother) read a message from Luke that touched our hearts.  He too was very proud of his Hempfield roots.

Congratulations to all of the inductees! See a full gallery of photos from this event on the Hempfield School District Alumni Facebook Page.

Luke Murray, Volleyball, Class of 2004

At arguably the most challenging position on the volleyball court, Luke Murray helped his Hempfield teammates reach heights that no other team in Pennsylvania had ever done -- win four state championships in a row.  From 2001-2004, the Hempfield men’s volleyball team went 116-2 in official play, won four state championships, three District III championships, and four LL League championships, all with Murray on the team, including three years as starting setter.  Individually, Luke helped the team go 87-2 in official play as starting setter and was voted first-team All-State in 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Following high school, Luke played collegiately at Penn State and helped the team win a National Championship in 2008.  He has also played professionally in Cyprus and Puerto Rico, trained for the U.S. National Team, and spent time as a U.S Elite Volleyball clinician.  Luke is currently an assistant coach and scouting coordinator for the Colorado State University Women's’ Volleyball Team.

Lisa McDonnell Stough, Swimming, Class of 2006

Lisa excelled in swimming at Hempfield High School. Through her four seasons with the team, she won ten Lancaster-Lebanon League titles, eight District 3 titles, and one PIAA State title. In her senior season, she placed first in the District III 100 Fly, but placed second in the state championship. In the 100 Free, she placed second in the District III meet, but came roaring back to win the state title. Through the four seasons, Lisa was named All-American five times in five different events, was named the Outstanding Hempfield High School winter season female athlete, and the Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Meet Most Outstanding swimmer.  She set many LL and District records.

At the University of Pittsburgh, she proved to be one of the best female swimmers in the Big East.
