About Hempfield Athletics

  • The Hempfield Board of School Directors provides funding for 24 varsity sports and a total of 66 teams competing at the varsity, junior varsity, junior high, and junior high junior varsity levels.
Athletics are recognized as an integral part of the total educational program of the Hempfield School District. The first and foremost purpose of the Hempfield School District is to provide the best education for our student athletes. Athletics are an extension of the academic curriculum. Athletics contribute to the physical, social, emotional and moral development of the students involved.
Since it is a privilege to participate on extracurricular teams, each student athlete carries with them responsibilities and expectations set forth by the PIAA and the Hempfield Board of School Directors.
Our goal is to develop highly competitive athletes without losing sight of the educational process and its values of sportsmanship, health, and scholastic achievement.

  • NEW Spectator Attendance Policies Athletic and Extracurricular Events

Posted by Kimberly Snyder on 9/25/2020 10:00:00 AM

An update has been made by the Hempfield School District School Board with regard to the district’s Athletic & Extracurricular Health & Safety Plan. At the September 22, 2020 Building & Grounds Board Committee meeting, the board authorized the administration to impose event specific capacity requirements with respect to current valid and enforceable public health orders.

Effective immediately, events in the stadium and Buchanan Gym will be ticketed events and these tickets will be pre-issued to the students competing prior to the contest.

The following guidelines will continue during the Fall 2020 sports season:

    • Everyone attending the sporting event, including coaches, athletes on the sidelines, staff, and spectators, age 2 and older must wear face coverings (masks or face shields), unless they are outdoors and can consistently maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet. Game officials are not required to wear face coverings while officiating.
      • However, attendance at any event is subject to appropriate behavior and adherence to our health and safety plans. Anyone who refuses to adhere to our guidelines will be asked to adhere to the expectation. If an individual chooses to not follow our plans, they will be asked to leave the event.
    • Lancaster and Lebanon County athletic directors are working to ensure that varsity football and girls volleyball events will be live streamed to the general public.
    • At this time, there will be NO charge to enter an event at the stadium and or in Buchanan Gym as tickets will be pre-issued to students competing in the event.
    • Hempfield student athletes will receive more specific information from their coaches/advisors with regard to ticket distribution.

Please note - the district will monitor attendance at events to determine if the imposed event specific capacity requirements need to be adjusted. Also, the district's plan/approach is subject to change at any time based on any existing valid and enforceable public health orders.

Other school districts may have additional or alternative rules in place. Please be sure you understand the rules at other school district’s events should you choose to be a spectator at an away event, when permitted.

We encourage our families and community to take advantage of the live streams that we will be providing for many of our home athletic contests. More information about live streaming is available on our website.

Please contact the Athletic Office at 717-898-5515 with any questions.
