Advanced Summer School Courses

Students who are registering for an advanced credit course must communicate with their counselors indicating the course is being taken during the Summer School Session. Counselors will then make adjustments to the student’s schedule accordingly.

Online Family and Consumer Science (FCS)

Course description: This course, required of all ninth-grade students, fulfills Chapter 4’s academic standards requirements in Family and Consumer Sciences, and Career Education. It will also provide students with a positive transition to high school. Fundamentals of Family and Consumer Sciences is an introductory course focusing on the development of management skills indicative of a healthy family. Topics studied will include personal finances, consumer rights and responsibilities, housing decisions, the family life cycle, interpersonal communication, decision-making skills, science and technology influences, nutrition, weight and meal management, child development, and parenting and career education. -
Online Health
Teacher: TBDAttendance Requirements: Attendance during the first day of summer school on June 23 is required. Orientation will occur during this class.Course description: This course provides the student with an investigation of current health issues and attendant problems from the student's personal, school, home, and community perspectives. (Topics of instruction are based on the PA State Standards for Public School Health Education.) The course provides students with learning experiences that enable them to effectively assimilate health information, and make discriminating decisions concerning their health and behavior as individuals, future parents, and community members. -
Online Personal Financial Literacy (PFL)
Teacher: TBDAttendance Requirements: Attendance on the first day of summer school on June 23 is required. Orientation will occur during this class.Course Description: This course will provide comprehensive classroom experiences that allow students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions as a consumer. Students will develop financial skills related to income, taxes, financial planning, banking, consumer credit, budgeting, savings and investment, and insurance. Technology-integrated learning experiences will be experienced throughout the course. -
Online Physical Education (Lifetime Fitness I, II, & III)

Course Description:- This course provides opportunities for students to increase their fitness and enhance their understanding of exercise and health. The course focus is on holistic fitness improvements, including online Health and Physical Education content reading, writing, assessments, and a weekly fitness log. Unit topics will include fitness principles, safety, biomechanical principles, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular fitness, flexibility, and designing a personal fitness plan.

Students must complete the in-person pre-assessment and post-assessment fitness tests. Students must maintain or exceed the individually demonstrated standard of fitness throughout the duration of the summer school course (determined by a post-assessment fitness test).

The fitness assessments will be performed in person with a certified Health & Physical Education teacher. Students will receive a sign-up link in the registration confirmation email to select a pre- and post-fitness test date and time.

In addition to the online Edgenuity instruction and assessments, students will use an online exercise fitness log to describe and track individual weekly exercises. The required fitness log will be tracked in Edgenuity and must include 4 hours of planned and intentional exercise every week for the entire 5 weeks of the summer school course. The fitness log allows students to tailor their workouts to meet their individual goals.

Students who have previously taken Lifetime Fitness may take the course again. If you are taking the course for a second or third time you will automatically be enrolled in Lifetime Fitness II or III. Lifetime Fitness II & III build upon and expand on the content of the previous Lifetime Fitness course.

Comm Tech I

Attendance Requirements: Comm Tech I meets at HHS from 8 a.m. - noon from June 9-12 and June 16-19, 2025. This is an 8-week class condensed to two weeks. Because projects and lessons take place in person in the high school television studio and editing lab, attendance at all eight (8) morning sessions is required for class credit.
Course description: Comm Tech I is an English high school elective designed to familiarize students with all aspects of professional video and media production. To do this, students will work on several individual and group projects over two weeks in the high school's television studio, control room, and editing lab. These projects will range from creating music videos to making short films to producing news reports. Successful completion of this course will fully prepare any student interested in taking Comm Tech II - Studio 7, our daily school news program.Comm Tech I is open to any rising 8th-12th grade student. Any rising 8th grader will be allowed to register for Comm Tech II once they are a high school student.
A limited number of seats are available for Comm Tech I. To be added to the waitlist, please complete this form. There is no further registration needed at this time. You will be notified about next steps for registration by May 1.
