Threat Assessment Teams

In accordance with Act 18, school districts are required to establish at least one team for the assessment of and intervention with students whose behavior may indicate a threat to the safety of the student, other students, school employees, school facilities, the community, or others. Every school building in the Hempfield School District has a Building Emergency Team (BET) which is tasked with addressing any building emergency that arises in the building, including threats. A building's BET consists of, but is not limited to, the following staff members:
- School Administrator(s)
- School Counselor(s)
- School Psychologist
- School Nurse
- Teacher(s)
- IEP Case Manager (if the student involved has an IEP)
- School Resource Officer (if applicable)
- Other staff (as needed based on the situation)
In addition to the BETs, our district has a District Safety Team that provides support to each BET when a building emergency is taking place. The District Safety Team consists of, but is not limited to, the following staff members:- Superintendent
- Assistant Superintendents
- Chief Financial & Operations Officer
- District Safety and Security Supervisor
- Director of Communications & Community Relations / Communications Coordinator
- Chief Information Officer
- Director of Special Education
- Director of Transportation
- Other staff (as needed based on the situation)
The members of the Building Emergency Teams and the District Safety Team are required to participate in training and is required to engage/consult with community resources such as law enforcement agencies, behavioral health professionals, etc.It is important for our entire school community to know that if any member of the community becomes aware of a concern/threat to a student, other students, school employees, school facilities, the community, or others, it needs to be reported immediately. Below are various reporting options for such concerns/threats.
