Freshman Course Selection

  • Dr. Beth Becker, 9th Grade Principal, will share a virtual course selection presentation for freshmen students on February 4. The presentation will review:

    • Sample Schedules 
    • Course requirements
    • When course selection takes place
    • Where to view the Course Selection Guide (available on student iPads and online)
    • Importance of intentional course selection
    • And more…

    All students will have access to school counselors, as well as Course Selection Guides and worksheets in the High School Commons (outside of the cafeteria) on specific days.

    • Required Courses for 9th Graders
      This video reviews the credit requirements for incoming ninth graders, emphasizing that all students must schedule eight credits (not classes) each school year.

      This video explains how teacher recommendations are made, and how that determines student placement for scheduling in ninth grade.
    • Why Do I Need to Select 5 Elective Classes?
      This video explains what electives are and details why each student needs to choose at least five electives as alternates for scheduling.

      If your child plans to play collegiate sports at the Division 1 or Division 2 level, this video will explain where to locate the NCAA approved courses in the curriculum guide, and emphasize the need to schedule college prep and honors classes while your child is in high school.
