A School Resource Officer (SRO) is a law enforcement officer who is assigned to a school. The main goal of the SRO is to provide a highly visible presence that promotes positive relationships between youth and law enforcement that, in turn, helps prevent juvenile delinquency. An SRO has a diverse role in the school community and has many duties and responsibilities, including serving as a positive role model, maintaining a close partnership with school administrators to provide for a safe and secure environment on campus, educating students by teaching in law-related classes, and counseling both students and parents on various topics.
Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, HHS welcomed School Resource Officer: Officer Tim Marks. Officer Marks has been with the East Hempfield Township Police Department for six years. He is a graduate of Ephrata High School and Messiah College.
