This Week at HHS

Principal’s Message

HHS Community,

We had a great week at HHS last week. The Hempfield Foundation afforded everyone an opportunity to see the Eclipse, and the clouds cooperated just enough for the event. Our spring sha-bing was sha-awesome. Thank you so much to renaissance club for organizing this event, and all the other clubs, advisors, and teachers for helping to make this happen. It was a beautiful day, and students did a wonderful job at the event, and all week long as they participated in the spirit week. Students really got into the spirit with the first ever Ro-Sham-Bo competition sponsored by Student council. Congratulations to senior Kena Bekere on defeating his classmates to become the first ever Ro-Sham-Bo winner. For his efforts, Kena earned a special parking spot for the remainder of the school year.

All the positive energy in HHS led up to a wonderful evening in the Enchanted Garden for our 2024 Senior Prom. Our students showed up in style, the dresses were fabulous, and the evening was filled with good food, laughter, dancing. Thank you to the Class of 2025 for putting together such a great event. The prom is annually one of my favorite events because it allows us to see our students at their best. The class of 2024 did not disappoint! This was just the first of many end of senior year activities for the class of 2024. I want to encourage them and their families to enjoy these moments, and take it all in. Commencement will be here before we know it.

We have another busy week coming up. This Wednesday we will host our first ever Career & Industry fair. Students that wish to attend will need to sign up ahead of time. Information has been posted in Schoology and I have a registration link posted below. On Friday evening, the HHS Mini-Thon will take place in the Buchanan Gym. Students are encouraged to join the Fight against pediatric cancer. Our Mini-thon group has a lot of fun activities planned around their western theme of “Cancer’s Last Rodeo”. Finally, Anchor Club will be holding their annual Craft Fair this Saturday from 11:00am – 4:00pm in the Buchanan Gym. Come check out the variety of items that will be available for purchase from vendors comprising students, teachers, and Hempfield community members.

In addition to all these happenings, our spring sports season is in full swing. Please check out the calendar below to attend an event. If you’re not familiar with our Unified Track Team and want to see something truly special, we are hosting a Unified Track Meet this Wednesday from 4:00-6:00pm in the Stadium.

Lastly, as you can see, we have a lot going on at HHS, and I haven’t even touched on the amazing things taking place in our classrooms. Our staff and students are Raising the Bar in so many ways. These events, activities, and lessons don’t just happen on their own. If you’ve seen a staff member going above and beyond, I would encourage you to recognize them by completing the Raising the Bar nomination form linked below. It means a lot to me and to our staff when we get to hear from you, and to recognize them at our faculty meetings.

Spring has arrived, the days are getting warmer, and life is good at HHS. Thanks for all you’re doing to support our students.

Have a wonderful week!
