Pre-K Counts by Owl Hill Learning Academy Expansion
Posted by Brooke Fisher on 9/19/2023 10:00:00 AMThe Pre-K Counts program, operated by Owl Hill Learning Academy, at Hempfield School District has expanded by adding a second classroom at Landisville Intermediate Center (LIC). This expansion was made possible by increased funding awarded by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) for the 2023-24 school year. Pre-K Counts is a free full-day Pre-K option for income-eligible families with 3 and 4-year-olds living in the Hempfield School District.
Each classroom is staffed with certified teachers and CDA-certified teaching assistants and equipped to support 20 students for full-day learning. With the hopes of filling all available seats due to this expansion, applications are currently being accepted via Google Form or will be accepted in-person from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 22 at LIC.
The Pre-K Counts program was established in 2007 to provide eligible children access to high-quality, publicly funded Pre-K. The program’s goal is to reduce educational disparities among children whose families are earning up to 300% or below the federal poverty level and provide a solid foundation to prepare students for the transition to Kindergarten.

Spectator Expectations at Extracurricular Events
Posted by Brooke Fisher on 9/18/2023 12:00:00 PMAs always, we look forward to the HSD community supporting the Black Knights at home extracurricular events, including this Friday’s home “gold-out” football game vs. Manheim Township. Before you head to the spectator section of the field, stadium, court, or playing area, please be sure to sport your red & black gear and remind yourselves and your student(s) of the football-specific and league expectations below:
All participating schools of the Lancaster-Lebanon League advocate that coaches, players, and spectators treat their guests with equity and respect. The following list of guidelines will be enforced; offenders will be escorted from the gym/stadium/field and barred from attending any further events for the remainder of the season/year.
-
- Only cheerleaders and others authorized by school staff are permitted on the sidelines or playing surface for the purpose of leading cheers or promoting school spirit.
- The Lancaster-Lebanon League encourages spectators to cheer and support their respective teams in a positive manner, but not to cheer negatively against the opponent.
- Spectators must stay off the playing surfaces at all times unless directed by school district staff. An exception would be to form a spirit line as the team enters the event. Students are not allowed to rush any field, court, or playing area before, during, or after a game.
- No sirens, whistles, portable stereos, or other noise makers, which interfere with the playing of the game, will be permitted.
- No hand-held banners or handheld signs of any type shall be displayed. Such articles will be confiscated by the game manager.
- Abusive language, negative gestures or taunting directed toward players, coaches, officials, or cheerleaders is prohibited.
- The throwing of paper or foreign objects onto the playing surface is prohibited.
In the event of unacceptable behavior, the administration will use a progressive discipline system that may include: removal from that event, suspension from subsequent events (in and out of the district), school detention, school suspension, or a combination of thereof.Thank you for your support. Go Black Knights!
