  • Immunizations Required for Attendance During the 2021-2022 School Year

Posted by Kimberly Snyder on 5/7/2021 12:00:00 PM

For the 2021-22 school year, we are asking parents/guardians to plan ahead for the following health documents and immunizations. Being prepared allows our Hempfield School District nurses to best serve our students.

The following exams must be conducted for the listed incoming grades, as required by PA Public School Code. Printable forms can be found at https://www.hempfieldsd.org/heathservices

Certain immunizations are also required for all children attending Pennsylvania schools, in accordance with PA Public School Code. The Immunization Law in Pennsylvania requires that all students have required immunizations by the first day of school unless the child has a medical or religious/philosophical exemption. All students must have at least one dose of the vaccinations listed below or risk exclusion.

For attendance in all grades, students need the following:

    • 4 doses of tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis
    • 4 doses of polio
    • 2 doses of measles, mumps, and rubella
    • 3 doses of hepatitis B
    • 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity

If a child does not have all of the doses listed above, needs additional doses of the next dose, and the next dose is not medically appropriate, the child must provide an alternative medical plan within the first five days of school for obtaining the required immunizations or risk exclusion.

In addition, the vaccines required for entrance into grades 7 and 12 are as follows:

    Grade 7 Students

    • 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) on the first day of 7th grade
    • 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) on the first day of 7th grade

    Grade 12 Students

    • 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV) on the first day of 12th grade. If one dose was given at 16 years of age or older, that shall count as the twelfth grade dose.

Please send updated immunization records with your student as soon as possible or no later than Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

For incoming Kindergarten students, please be sure that any immunization records have been provided to the building school nurse prior to entrance in August. Private physical exam forms and dental forms can be completed and returned to the nurse as well.

Any student who does not have the required vaccinations will receive additional personal communication. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your school office.

  • MES Kindergarten Lunch Experience: May 19

Posted by Kimberly Snyder on 4/28/2021 3:15:00 PM

    Current Kindergarten students and families,

Welcome to the world of school meals! The Food Services Staff is here to provide your child with good nutrition, fun and lots of new adventures in dining.

The Kindergarten Lunch Experience at Mountville Elementary School is an activity where your child comes to the cafeteria and enjoys a great school lunch! This will happen on Wednesday, May 19. This activity is used to help transition your kindergarten student into the first grade.

Lunch is provided free this year!

    Food Nutrition Program Information

Meal portions and menu items are based on the nutritional needs of children at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.  We strive to provide meals that are nutritious and appealing and have found this to be a wonderful opportunity to introduce new food items to the students.

In a typical year, the price for a school lunch is $2.45 for full pay students, $0.40 for students whose families qualify for reduced price meals, or free lunch for the students whose families qualify for free meals.

For future payments, parents can electronically deposit funds into their child’s meal account by using our on-line service: MySchoolBucks accessed at myschoolbucks.com.  The cost of this service for each credit or debit transaction is $2.49. You may also send cash/check with your student by using the prepay envelopes going forward; they can be obtained at the school cafeteria.  Teachers will collect envelopes and send them to the cafeteria daily.  Payments are deposited directly into the student’s individual Cafeteria Account as they are received.

Remaining funds in the student’s account at the end of the school year will be available for use in the next school year.  All negative balances are to be settled immediately and must be paid prior to the end of the current school year.

Monthly Menus are posted on your student’s school webpage each month.

Free & Reduced Price Meals:  Families who feel they may qualify for free or reduced price meals, (breakfast and lunch), may apply online at EZMealApp.com.  This online application is easy, convenient and confidential.  Eligibility is based on family size and gross income. You will be notified by mail as to whether or not you qualify for free or reduced price meals.

Please go to EZMealApp.com to apply for free and reduced price meals for the 2021-2022 school year.  Applications should be completed after July 12, 2021 for the 2021 - 2022 school year

Dietary Restrictions:  If your child has special dietary restrictions (i.e. food allergies, diabetes, eating restrictions, etc.), you must complete a Medical Plan of Care Form and have it signed by your child’s physician.  Forms are available from the school nurse, the Food Services Office or on our website at: www.hempfieldsd.org/foodservices (Document:  Medical Plan of Care Form).

Please contact the Food Services Office at (717) 898-5566 with any questions. We are pleased to offer breakfast and lunch to our students and staff every school day and look forward to meeting your kindergarten student!
