  • LMS Lockdown Drill Follow-Up

Posted by Dr. Mack on 9/19/2023 1:30:00 PM

A lockdown drill was conducted this morning, Tuesday, September 19, 2023. All students and staff were safe.

All HSD schools are committed to the safety and security of our students and staff and as such, periodic drills are conducted. These drills provide students and staff with an opportunity to practice our safety protocols so we are prepared in the event of a real emergency.

  • Spectator Expectations at Extracurricular Events

Posted by Brooke Fisher on 9/18/2023 12:00:00 PM

As always, we look forward to the HSD community supporting the Black Knights at home extracurricular events, including this Friday’s home “gold-out” football game vs. Manheim Township. Before you head to the spectator section of the field, stadium, court, or playing area, please be sure to sport your red & black gear and remind yourselves and your student(s) of the football-specific and league expectations below:

    football game rules

All participating schools of the Lancaster-Lebanon League advocate that coaches, players, and spectators treat their guests with equity and respect. The following list of guidelines will be enforced; offenders will be escorted from the gym/stadium/field and barred from attending any further events for the remainder of the season/year.

      • Only cheerleaders and others authorized by school staff are permitted on the sidelines or playing surface for the purpose of leading cheers or promoting school spirit.
      • The Lancaster-Lebanon League encourages spectators to cheer and support their respective teams in a positive manner, but not to cheer negatively against the opponent.
      • Spectators must stay off the playing surfaces at all times unless directed by school district staff. An exception would be to form a spirit line as the team enters the event. Students are not allowed to rush any field, court, or playing area before, during, or after a game.
      • No sirens, whistles, portable stereos, or other noise makers, which interfere with the playing of the game, will be permitted.
      • No hand-held banners or handheld signs of any type shall be displayed. Such articles will be confiscated by the game manager.
      • Abusive language, negative gestures or taunting directed toward players, coaches, officials, or cheerleaders is prohibited.
      • The throwing of paper or foreign objects onto the playing surface is prohibited.

In the event of unacceptable behavior, the administration will use a progressive discipline system that may include: removal from that event, suspension from subsequent events (in and out of the district), school detention, school suspension, or a combination of thereof.

Thank you for your support. Go Black Knights!

  • LMS Lockdown Drill

Posted by Clint Willman on 9/18/2023 2:15:00 AM

LMS will conduct a lockdown drill tomorrow, September 19, 2023. Just as we practice drills for weather and fire-related safety, we also practice how to respond in the event of an intruder. It is important for students and staff to be familiar with the process, procedures, and routines. Mr. Bill Gleason, Hempfield School District’s Safety and Security Supervisor will also participate in our drill, and we will utilize his feedback to strengthen our procedures.

Each classroom teacher will talk with his/her class about the lockdown drill prior to it occurring. The teacher will emphasize that this is just a drill and that there is no reason for concern at this time. The teacher will also explain the importance of practicing these drills, so we are prepared in the event of a real emergency.

There is no topic more important than the safety and security of our students and the staff who work with them in our schools. We encourage you to visit this page on our website to familiarize yourself with many of the ways we are committed to safety and security at Hempfield School District. Please consider talking with your student at home about this drill so they feel comfortable and secure.

  • Excuse Notes, Armor Cards, and Spirit Day!

Posted by Clint Willman on 9/14/2023 3:35:00 AM

Parents, you have the option to have your child drop off excuse notes to the office or you may also email them to: LMS_Attendance@hempfieldsd.org.  Either format is acceptable.  It is very important for students to have excuse notes turned in to be eligible for their Armor Cards.  To be eligible for an Armor Card you must meet the following requirements:

    • Zero unexcused absences for the marking period
    • No more than 3 tardies for the marking period
    • C or above in all classes
    • No discipline referrals
    • Follow all core values

    What is an Armor Card?
An Armor Card is a reward for doing what is expected of you at LMS – attend school, do your best, follow school rules, and live the LMS core values. Armor cards allow students to attend special school activities such as Fun Flexes. These are great school-wide activities that promote engagement and school pride amongst our LMS students and faculty.

Lastly, TOMORROW is SPIRIT DAY! Students should wear their favorite team jersey or sports clothing. This year we're keeping track of homerooms and teams that show the most team spirit. These teams will receive a reward at the end of the quarter.
