  • Subscribing/Unsubscribing from Building E-News

Posted by Brooke Fisher on 5/31/2023 1:00:00 PM

Now that the 2023-24 school year has ended, it is important to ensure you are signed up for the correct building(s) 5:00 p.m. e-news. Subscribers will receive an e-mail every day at 5:00 p.m. when new information is posted in the “News” section of your child’s school.

If you have a student moving on to a new building, visit the district homepage and select the desired building from the dropdown. On the school site, scroll to the “Subscribe to E-News” section, enter your e-mail address, and click “Subscribe”. You may be asked to approve the subscription in a confirmation e-mail. The district does not have the ability to subscribe individuals.

If you no longer have a student in a particular building, you may unsubscribe from that building’s e-news, if you wish. Simply find the latest 5:00 p.m. e-mail and click “unsubscribe from this list” at the bottom of the message. The district does not have the ability to unsubscribe individuals.

Note: If you have students in more than one building, you will want to subscribe to each building, as each building shares their own building-specific news in addition to district-wide updates.

  • Summer Book Sign-Out & Reading Challenge for Rising 7th Graders

Posted by Brooke Fisher on 5/26/2023 11:00:00 AM

We are so excited to welcome incoming 7th graders to Centerville and Landisville Middle Schools next year! Research shows the benefits of being immersed in reading, which also helps with students’ writing skills. This summer, we want to encourage all of our students to read!

Hempfield is proud to offer books for rising 7th graders to borrow over break. Students are able to work with their current elementary librarian to sign out book(s) to read this summer. This flyer includes all books that are available for student sign-out. Students can return these books to their 7th-grade English teacher at the start of the school year.

Using the books offered on the list above, books signed out from a local library, or any other book of choice, rising 7th graders are invited to participate in the Middle School Summer Reading Challenge. Download the document here and return it to your ELA teacher during the first week of school for a chance to win a gift card!

Questions can be directed to Mrs. Lauren Lewis, Secondary English Department Coordinator, at lauren_lewis@hempfieldsd.org.

iPads and chargers are being collected from students currently in grades K, 3, 6, 9, and 12. These iPads and chargers are being replaced over the summer and must be turned in. If you have a student in one of these grades, please know that these devices and chargers are being collected throughout this week.

Students in ESY or summer school do not need to turn in their iPad until the program is completed in August.

    • Grade 12 Collection: Monday, May 22 from 7:20 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in PAC Lobby and Tuesday, May 23 from  8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. in PAC Lobby

    Grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, & 11

Students in these grade levels have the option to turn in their iPad or keep it at home for use this summer. The district will be collecting iPads from students who wish to turn them in for summer storage this week (May 24-May 26). Chargers should remain at home for use next school year and will not be collected if a student is turning in their iPad for the summer. Students who turn in their iPad for the summer will receive the iPad in their new homeroom at the start of the 2023-24 school year.
