  • 13th Annual Hempfield Food Drive is Happening Now!

    The 13th Annual Hempfield Food Drive, presented by JK Mechanical, is in full swing! Each year, the food drive benefits the Hempfield Area Food Pantry.

    Throughout the month of February, buildings across the district will be collecting non-perishable food items. Items can be dropped off at the main lobby of your school prior to Wednesday, March 1. All non-perishables will be appreciated & accepted, but please see the image below for specific items in need.

    Between July and December, the Hempfield Area Food Pantry was visited 2,445 times by 228 local families. Help us restock the pantry to continue to benefit our community!

  • Farmdale February Happenings

    Family Math Night
    Come and have math fun with your family! The Faculty-Parent Association is hosting a family math night in the Farmdale gym on Feb. 16 from 6:00-7:30 PM. There will be board games, bingo, estimation stations, card games, and more! The event is free of charge. Students brought home a flyer that includes RSVP information. If you and your family would like to attend, please fill out the RSVP slip and return to school no later than Friday, Feb. 3. 

    February Food Drive
    The 13th annual district food drive presented by J.K. Mechanical begins Wed. Feb. 1 and runs for the entire month. Students are encouraged to donate boxed and canned non-perishable food items. There will be a table in the lobby where students can leave their donations. Let’s can the van and fill it up for the Hempfield Area Food Pantry!

    February Early Dismissal and No School Dates
    There is an early dismissal on Friday, Feb. 17 and No School on Monday, Feb. 20. School hours are as follows for Feb. 17:

    • AM Kindergarten: 9:00-10:50 a.m.

    • PM Kindergarten: 11:40 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

    • Grades 1-6: 9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

  • Don't Forget to Register for 2023-24 Kindergarten

    Kindergarten registration for the 2023-24 school year is open now & can be done entirely online! Registration should be completed prior to February 23, 2023.
     
    Kindergarten is open to students within the Hempfield School District who will be five years old on or before the first day of September. Visit hempfieldsd.org/kindergarten to complete registration in 4 simple steps!
     
    HSD's kindergarten program is designed to aid in the development of the whole child – intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. Because each child is different in a variety of ways, kindergarten instruction is carefully organized to provide for individual needs and stages of development. Kindergarten also helps each child acquire the good habits that are necessary for success in school.

  • Parent Workshop: Navigating Social Media

    IU13 is coordinating a Navigating Social Media workshop for parents. The online workshop is hosted by Safe Communities and sponsored by the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office. This free workshop will cover what every parent needs to know about providing internet safety for their children. Click here for more information.

  • Hempfield Foundation Announces Bookmark Contest to Celebrate Read Across America Activities

    Beginning this week, the Hempfield Foundation will hold a contest to design their 2023 Read Across America bookmark. The contest is open to all elementary and middle school students in the Hempfield School District. Students will receive a form to bring home that has a template they can use for this contest. Students are encouraged to create a design that shows why they love reading. The Foundation is looking for positive messages and artwork that's executed by hand. No computer-generated submissions, please! Submissions must be turned into the school office no later than February 13, 2023Please don’t forget to have your child(ren) put their name on the back of their submission.

    The Foundation board will select semifinalists from all the designs submitted. From there, one elementary and one middle school winner will be selected by a public vote on the Foundation’s Facebook page during Read Across America week (2/26-3/2/23). Winners will be announced on our Facebook and Instagram page on March 3, 2023. The winning elementary design will be printed and distributed to all elementary students and the winning middle school design will be handed out to all middle school students during Read Across America Week. In addition, the winners will each receive a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card.

  • Snowman Winners!

    We have our winners. This week at Farmdale, students and staff had the opportunity to guess how many marshmallows filled our little snowman in the lobby. Fifth-grade student Toby Gibson and Secretary Sharon Reisinger were our winners! They each received a Barnes & Noble gift card courtesy of the Farmdale Faculty-Parent Association. Congratulations!

  • Reminder: GIANT's Fill-a-Plate & Round Up Programs

    GIANT's Round Up Program will continue to run through February 28, but you can currently donate non-perishable goods as part of the Fill-a-Plate program, too!

    The Fill-a-Plate portion of GIANT's partnership with HSD to help feed families will run from January 20-30, and you can participate by dropping your items into the collection bin at the front of the GIANT store at 550 Centerville Road. Items can be brought to the store or purchased while you do your regular shopping.

    Also, don't forget... you can still “round up” your grocery purchase and donate the "round up" amount to Hempfield School District's efforts to help feed students. The GIANT Company will directly support customers’ generosity by matching all donations up to $250,000. These programs are only available at the GIANT store on Centerville Road.

  • Guess the Snowman

    Starting on tomorrow, Tuesday, January 24, students will have the chance to guess how many marshmallows fill our snowman that will be set up in the main lobby. The winner will receive a prize pack, compliments of the FPA! The winner will be chosen this Friday, January 27 during the morning announcements.
