In the home education option students will not receive these services through the school district.

A notarized affidavit must be filed with the school superintendent before you start your homeschool program and by August 1 of each year after that. Please contact the Student Services office at 717-459-9009 to discuss your specific situation.

Yes. Anytime during the school year, a family may choose to withdraw their student from homeschooling and enroll in another program. To provide the most seamless learning experience for students, we recommend that any moves into or out of our online learning program occur at a scheduled semester break (7-12). School administrators, counselors, and teachers will work with students and families to assist with any transition back to in-person learning.

No. The school issued iPad is only for students currently enrolled in a Hempfield school. 

There is no school district provided stipend for homeschool families.

All home school students in the district are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities offered by the district, including high school clubs, performing arts, and athletics.

Yes. Families who choose to home school can access free resources on Hempfield School District’s K-12 curriculum page. These resources can help in developing learning goals and objectives. Additional resources and educational materials are also available from your school of geographic enrollment. To learn more about borrowing materials, please contact the building principal.  

For students in grades 6 through 12, the Pennsylvania Department of Education created the Pennsylvania Core Standards, which highlights content standards across core curricular areas. Home school families may use this resource by selecting the grade level and subject area.

PSSA tests are taken in grades 3 through 8. Keystone exams are end-of-course assessments taken at the conclusion of Algebra 1B, English 10, and Biology, regardless of what grade students are in at the time.

Home school students are eligible to take PSSA tests or Keystone exams with district-enrolled students. To schedule these, parents must contact the principal of their neighborhood school no later than October 1.  To find out which building principal to contact, call Student Services at 717-459-9009.

The home schooling option is separate from Hempfield School District’s in-person classrooms and our full time online learning program, called Hempfield Virtual Academy (HVA). Students who are in a home school program are not eligible to attend Hempfield classes, either in-person or virtually.

Hempfield School District’s full-time online learning program is called HVA, Hempfield Virtual Academy. HVA is designed to meet the needs of students and families interested in a full-time online learning program that offers flexibility and individualized pacing in the comfort of your own home, but it is not a synchronous virtual program.
