HSD Celebrates American Education Week
American Education Week is a time to celebrate public education and recognize the individuals who are making a difference in our schools and for our students every day. Stay tuned each day on our social channels and district/building web pages as we extend thanks to our Hempfield community during this special week.
Monday, Kick-Off Day
During American Education Week, we take time to celebrate the potential of all students; recognize and give thanks to the teachers, support staff, and administrators working within the education system; and honor the parents, guardians, and extended families who support and encourage our youth in their educational journey.
This is also a time to celebrate the importance of public education as an institution and reflect on how we can continuously improve the education system and ensure that learning is lifelong and not restricted to a class room.
Public schools are an important pillar in our communities. A quality education has long been recognized as a significant indicator of one’s future success, and we must never take our basic right to public education for granted. Through the years, public schools have given us a prepared workforce, innovative industries, creative solutions and ideas, and a strong economy.
Tuesday, Our Teachers Have "Black Knight Pride"!
“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” - Henry Adams
American Education Week presents us with an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals making a difference in our schools. Although we recognize this week every year and are thankful for our teachers year-round, this school year our 549 teachers have shown even more "Black Knight Pride" by continuously displaying their commitment to our students. This week we celebrate each of our teachers for their care and dedication to our students and community.
Wednesday, Hempfield Runs On Our Support Staff!
Hempfield School District embraces our commitment to educating students. In fact, 39% of our 950+ employees serve in roles and functions that provide extra support to our students and help our schools run smoothly. These roles range from counselors, social workers, building aides, secretaries, paraprofessionals, food service workers, custodial workers, information technology, bus drivers, coaches, and more!
It takes a village, and we couldn’t do it without you! Thank you!
Thursday, Stay Active As A Partner In Your Child's Education!
Parent/guardian and family support goes a long way in the public school setting. Beyond being interested and engaged in your child’s education and creating a home environment that supports learning and growing, you can partner with HSD in other ways, too. We encourage you to:
- Attend parent-teacher conferences
- Become active in your school’s parent-teacher organization
- Volunteer in your student’s classroom
- Stay connected and up-to-date on your child’s school news and activities by signing up for school e-news and checking PowerSchool and Schoology pages.
- Encourage your student to become involved in clubs, organizations, or events
We are grateful for the partnership with our Black Knight families & we look forward to your continued support.
Friday, Rounding out AEW With Administrator Appreciation!
Our administration team is charged with setting and carrying out the district’s mission of providing safe and supportive environments, engaging experiences, and rigorous educational opportunities that inspire all students to excel in their chosen pathway and grow as lifelong learners and contributing citizens. They also inspire all team members to aspire to the district’s vision of “Personal growth, achievement, and success for everyone.”
