Accessing the Landisville Campus During the Church Street Water Main Project
Hempfield Water Authority’s water main replacement project on Church Street is expected to begin the week of October 17 and will impact traffic flow patterns in and around the Landisville school campus.
Once the work commences, Church Street, from Main Street to Mumma Drive, will be closed Monday through Friday from 6 am to 5 pm. The project is estimated to last 5-6 weeks and will impact how buses, students, parents, and staff enter and exit the entire Landisville campus, including access to Hempfield High School, Landisville Middle School, Landisville Primary Center, Landisville Intermediate Center, the Preschool at HHS, and the administration building.
PennDOT has set a detour route to be used during the duration of this project, directing motorists to use Stony Battery Road. Hempfield School District has worked with East Hempfield Township to identify more localized detour routes for buses, staff, parents, and student drivers to navigate their travel to and from the impacted schools on the Landisville campus. This information will be updated, as needed, and you are encouraged to check this page often for any changes throughout the duration of the work.
Changes to specific bus stops and routes will be communicated directly to those impacted by the changes by our transportation department. It is important to note, however, that this project will have a ripple effect on our transportation system and it will likely impact other bus routes in the district in terms of potential delays due to traffic pattern changes, even if your child does not attend one of the schools on the Landisville campus.
Drivers and families should expect delays and plan accordingly. We know these delays can be inconvenient and frustrating, and we ask for your patience. With the detour routes in place, there will be increased traffic through and around the Landisville campus. Please take care as you navigate through the area – whether by car, foot, or bicycle – and be mindful that this is an active campus with students and others moving about.
In an effort to put the detour routes for all stakeholders in one place – student drivers, staff, parents/guardians, buses, etc. – we have created a document with maps and route options depending on where you are driving to and from. This document will be posted by the end of the week and will exist in both static PDF and narrated video formats for your reference.
The general public detour map can be found here.
