Last week, after theCommonwealth Court struck down the mask mandate, we communicated that absent anexisting, valid, and legal/binding order,we would follow our Health and Safety Planwhich states that masks are optional in our schools. Appeals were filed based on the court’s ruling. Late this afternoon, November 16, 2021, the Commonwealth Court ruled that the Department of Health’s automatic supersedeas (stay) in the Corman et al. v. Beam appeal will be lifted on December 4, 2021.
As a result of today’s ruling, Acting Secretary Beam’s mask order remains in effect; therefore, effective Wednesday, November 17, 2021, masks are required to be worn in our schools. If someone has an approved medical exemption, that exemption remains in place.
Absent further Court or Board action, effective Saturday, December 4, 2021, all Hempfield schools will be mask-optional, in accordance with our Board-approved Health and Safety Plan.
As a reminder, there is an order requiring masks to be worn on public transportation and this includes school buses. Students will continue to be required to wear masks on buses.
We will continue to update information on the Coronavirus Update Center on our website as additional information becomes available.
