A Letter from Superintendent Bromirski to the Class of 2020

Dear Class of 2020 Students & Families,

I want to begin by thanking all of you - our resilient senior class members, your family, friends, supporters, and our Hempfield community! The last two months have been filled with many unknowns, constant changes, and disappointments for all of us. We all agree that the coming weeks should provide a well-deserved recognition of your school achievements!

We are now finalizing plans for the distribution of your high school diploma, which will occur after our virtual graduation ceremony on June 2. We have discussed many options and believe it is important to focus on safety first. So, we are giving each member of the senior class a choice as to how you would like to receive your diploma.

The three options to receive your diploma on Wednesday, June 3, are:

  1. Select a timeslot at one of our elementary buildings and walk across the stage.
  2. Drive up to the high school and pick up your diploma in the car line. There will not be a stage in front of the high school.
  3. Have your diploma personally delivered to your home.

A detailed communication about the distribution of diplomas will be shared on Wednesday, May 27.

Our administration, School Board, and community have also pledged to support and carry out an in-person event over the summer to celebrate your graduation. We are considering various options and have also asked our senior class to provide feedback. We promise to listen to your survey feedback and plan for the best possible event to celebrate you, within the safety guidelines established by Governor Wolf.

We have witnessed rapid changes during this pandemic and hope you understand that it is not possible for the district to commit to a specific date or plan for this summer event yet. By waiting to select a date, we can consider new opportunities to make the event the best it can be as social distancing and group gathering regulations continue to change. The last thing we want to do is cancel or postpone another event you had hoped for.

We are optimistic that we can all be together in-person again soon as one Hempfield community! Please stay tuned for more details as we continue working through the logistics of continuing the celebration of your achievements!

Until then, stay safe!

Mr. Michael Bromirski
Superintendent of Schools
