Hempfield High School
Performing Arts Center Presents:
Romeo and Juliet
Dance Theatre 2012 is entitled Romeo and Juliet. The production is based on the 1996 Baz Luhrmann movie, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The film is an abridged modernization of the classic, romantic, Shakespearean, tragedy. Dance Theatre is bringing this conception of the story to the Hempfield High School stage with one major twist. The story will be told exclusively through dance with the combined efforts of more than 120 students, faculty members, and a host of parent and community volunteers. Audiences can expect to see some of the iconic images from the film come to life on stage and hear music from the film’s popular soundtrack. But regardless of your familiarity with the film, audiences of this production will enjoy the retelling of what has come to be known as the greatest love story of all time. This annual Hempfield tradition will be held in the Performing Arts Center on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7:30pm and Sunday, May 6 at 2:30pm. A free senior preview performance for residents of Hempfield School District who are 65 years of age and older will be held on Thursday evening, May 3 at 7:00 pm.
