    Food Drive
Last week LMS participated in our district food drive by holding a Food Drive Competition Week from February 10-17. Last year our food drive was held for four weeks and we collected 2,718 items. This year, LMS students and teachers donated 1,115 items. Everyone who gave is a winner, however, we do like competitions here at LMS! We awarded first and second place for 8th grade to Mrs. Szmerda and Mr. Willman's homerooms. First and second place for 7th grade went to Mrs. Garrison's and Mr. Herr's homeroom. Very honorable mention went to Mrs. Stout's homeroom. We exceeded our giving goal of two cans per person. All food was donated to the Hempfield Food Pantry, a food pantry that provides food exclusively to Hempfield families.

Attention Students: Now that winter is here, your school nurses want you be be at your best to learn. Please remember to get a good night's sleep, wash your hands often and drink plenty of water every day. Don't forget- You may carry a water bottle during school as long as it is clear.
This is a great way to stay hydrated. Remember- All students must have a hall pass to see the nurse unless it is an emergency. Plan your visit to the nurse wisely- You should not be missing important class time for minor issues. Thanks!

  • Go Pink

Posted by Clint Willman at 2/22/2017 2:10:00 AM

     pink  pink

Today at LMS we joined others around the world and celebrated Pink Shirt Day.  Students wore pink to school to demonstrate their commitment to conquering bullying with kindness.

Yesterday, during flex, LMS students learned about two Canadian students, Travis Price and David Shepherd's creative solution to a bullying problem in their school.  The two boys got tired of seeing a 9th grader bullied for wearing a pink shirt.  Travis and David bought 50 pink shirts and spread their message using social media to wear a pink shirt to school to stop the bullying.  The next day 100 students wore pink shirts to support the one bullied student.  Pink Shirt Day was born.  Travis and David are credited with United Nations establishing an Anti-bullying Day.

During flex Mrs. Huber shared the story of Travis and David.  Further Mrs. Huber described ways to deflect bullys and urged all students to be quick and accurate reporters. The presentation ended with a Kid President video.  Kid President shared ways for students to show kindness.

  • Communications Survey Now Available

Posted by Shannon Zimmerman at 2/16/2017 9:30:00 AM

School and family/community partnerships are vital to the success of Hempfield School District. We strive to use a variety of outreach tools to maintain strong communications networks.

To assess our efforts, we are offering a communications survey, which will be conducted annually. This survey focuses on the communications climate that exists relative to three specific areas: school building to home, classroom to home, and school district to community.

All Hempfield residents are encouraged to participate in the survey by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3 so we can appropriately measure communication preferences and the effectiveness of our outreach.

    Take the survey now!
