Health Services

Pupil service personnel who provide health services for students include certified school nurses, health room nurses, consulting physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, and dentists. When the certified school nurse must be out of the building a health room nurse who is either an RN or LPN manages the health room under the direction of the certified school nurse and building principal.

Along with caring for student and faculty illnesses and emergencies, school nurses maintain health and immunization records on all students, perform state-mandated health screenings, administer doctor prescribed medications, perform nursing procedures, assist physicians and dentists with school examinations, provide health counseling and referrals, provide classroom instruction on health related topics, and serve as a parent and classroom consultant in health related matters.

School Nurses

School Nurses are nursing professionals that are important and valued members of the educational team. They offer unique opportunities for students to learn healthy behaviors, and to receive easily accessible health services within a school setting. They are specially trained in health promotion and assessment, respond skillfully to the ever-changing health care needs of today’s students, and are knowledgeable in the most appropriate referral procedures.

Special Health Care Issues

Some children with disabilities may need special accommodations in school, and yet not need formal special education. These children can include those with seizure disorders such as epilepsy, asthma, life-threatening allergies, and diabetes. If applicable, please consider completing the following questionnaires to return to their child’s building nurse.
