As someone who grew up in a loving, but poor, family, I strongly believe in the premise that “they are all our kids” and deserve all we have to offer. I am a testimony to the power of education and caring educators on one’s life. Education has been my life’s work, but more importantly, my passion. I truly believe that all kids can learn and succeed.

I am proud of our diverse student body and community and believe that each student has natural gifts to help him or her shine. Our staff cares deeply for our students and I have witnessed time and again many ways in which our staff goes above what is required to support our students and their successes.

Our economic and political challenges have grown in recent years, but we have chosen to look at these as opportunities to step back and look at what we do and how we can do those things better. Our staff members and students have risen to the occasion by being innovative and also showing their caring and compassion with all they have done to give back to the community, contribute to many worthy organizations, and provide support for those less fortunate.

Although we first and foremost want our students to gain academic knowledge and skills, we also want them to become healthy individuals who can work with others, communicate and problem solve, and contribute as responsible adults in the future. Consequently, we also provide experiences for our students to learn how to get along with others, how to be socially, emotionally, and physically healthy, and how to develop talents in a variety of areas.

I will be the first to say that as human beings and as an organization, we are not perfect, but I can promise you that we will do all we can to do what is right for our students and community and to keep our focus on continual improvement. We have a strong Board of Directors who care deeply about our district and community and are blessed with much support from our parents, community partners, and community members.

I know additional challenges lie ahead, but I am confident that our staff, students, parents, and community members will continue to work together for the greater good. I truly believe Hempfield is a special place and am proud to be a 30 year resident of this community.
