Meal Prices & Payment

Your child's school has a computer based point of sale system.  A computerized bar code identifies whether the child qualifies for free or reduced price meals or is full paid.  The bar code enables only authorized Child Nutrition staff to access the child's account.  Each child has their own account into which parents can deposit any amount of money at any time.  Prepay envelopes are provided for your convenience.  Please put your child’s name on the front of the envelope.  You may pay with cash or by check made payable to "Hempfield Cafeteria Account".  Payment for meals is expected at the time of the purchase.

Free & Reduced Price Meals Program

Familes may apply for free or reduced price meals at any time during the school year.  Every year one new family application must be completed.  Applications are approved based on Federal standards for family size and family income. If you need an application, they are available in each school office and in the Child Nutrition Office.  

Select one of the following two methods to apply: 

1. Online Application:  COMPASS is a system used by DPW that allows citizens of Pennsylvania to apply for programs, such as Free & Reduced Price School Meals, Food Stamps, Energy Assistance, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), etc., online at http://www.compass.state.pa.us/ 
    
2. Paper Application:  Please fill out one Family Application per household listing everyone residing in your household and return it to school with your child.  The qualifying status for each child is safeguarded in our Point of Sale System.  All information is kept confidential; your child will not be identified in any way.  If you need help in completing your application, please contact the Child Nutrition office at 717-898-5566 between 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
